World Men’s Health Awareness Month

November is Men’s Health Awareness Month, and this year we focus on addressing some of the biggest health issues men face, namely prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention.

Did you know that men, on average, die almost five years earlier than women? (Source: NCBI) Why is this the case?  Men are more reluctant to go to the doctor. And as you may know, not all countries are created equal – wealth plays a significant role in the quality of healthcare available to citizens.

At PSHAN, we are committed to helping bridge that gap. Through strategic partnerships between the public and private sectors, we aim to ensure everyone in Nigeria (and eventually Africa) has access to quality and affordable healthcare. ADHFP is just one way we plan to achieve this goal.

What is ADHFP?

The ‘Adopt-A-Healthcare-Facility Programme’ (ADHFP) is a multi-impact initiative created to improve health outcomes in Nigeria.

The primary goal of ADHFP is to establish at least one world-class PHC in each of Nigeria’s 774 Local Government Areas. By establishing and revitalizing PHCs, we aim to ensure health and well-being for every Nigerian and, eventually, every African.

ADHFP is the first of many high-impact programmes we plan to launch as we focus on addressing the healthcare needs of all Nigerians. This initiative will have several benefits, including,

  • Reducing mortality rates
  • Creating new jobs, entrepreneurship opportunities and health-focused start-ups
  • Improving public sector accountability
  • Female gender empowerment
  • Successful health policy reform

How will the ADHFP help improve men’s health in Nigeria?

ADHFP is aimed at providing quality and affordable healthcare for all Nigerians. In honour of Men’s Health Awareness Month, we want to highlight how this initiative will help close the health gap between men in Nigeria and the rest of the world.

ADHFP will work to close the health gap between men in Nigeria and the rest of the world by ensuring that every Nigerian citizen has access to global standard primary healthcare centres.

Through ADHFP, we will also focus on strengthening access to quality and affordable healthcare so that we can better serve everyone in Nigeria, regardless of their gender.

ADHFP is an important initiative to help improve men’s health in Nigeria by strengthening primary healthcare. We hope that through initiatives like this one, we can slowly but surely close the health gap between Nigeria and the rest of the world.
